What started off as a way to improve the history experience for one teacher's classroom has become a website with half a million users from 43 different countries...
ABOUT US
The mission of History Cat is simple: change the way students learn about history. We've set out to answer the age-old question that every teacher asks: "How can I motivate teens to read a textbook?" Now, we're not talking about skim reading or zombie reading, but actual reading. Like eyes following words, minds creating images, reading. After all, if history doesn't tell a good story, what's the point?
Our Mission
The mission of History Cat is simple: change the way students learn about history. We've set out to answer the age-old question that every teacher asks: "How can I motivate teens to read a textbook?" Now, we're not talking about skim reading or zombie reading, but actual reading. Like eyes following words, minds creating images reading. For the past 12 years I've taught history at my local high school. Even though I was, and still am, crazy passionate about education, I decided that it was time to branch out and start my own online textbook. I saw a need to make the content that students were getting more engaging with a better story line. After all, if history doesn't tell a good story, what's the point? It's our goal that the days of the boring history textbook are...well, history.
How Can My School District Use The History Cat?
Keep It Simple. The History Cat is a free open-source classroom resource. Using our site is as easy as logging on to the website from your computer or device.
Do You Offer Supplemental Resources?
We're on it. Keep checking back as new stuff is being written all the time. Of course, the main content will be kept as an open-access resource for teachers, students, and history buffs everywhere.
Thanks for making this project a success...
