Long Story Short
In 1914, the United States was like that neighbor who sees a fight going down on the street and quickly shuts the door muttering "ain't none of my business". Americans were eager to stay out of Europeans affairs but history had other plans as German actions finally forced the U.S. to get involved in the Great War. World War One started with an assassins bullet and ended with millions dead and wounded. The war devastated Europe and propelled America onto the road to becoming the dominant world power of the 20th Century.
